ROOM

The technology of virtual reality has bring audience to a completely immersive stage especially in horror genre artworks. I tried to create serious game in VR before, however, I found the I cannot fully immerse myself because the indirect contact with the virtual elements around me. And this is the reason why I bring the Motion Leap Controlled in the game. In the game “ROOM”, I created different rooms, which have its unique mechanism and the player needs to use their talent to escape from those rooms. Originally, This game is a multi-player game based on mobile devices and the original idea is to give each player different augmented virtual clues and have discussion for three rounds in order to find the hidden secret. I found there exist a obstacle that each of the players’ surroundings are different and it’s pretty hard to predict what clue is going to be shown on each of their phones. So I change the surrounding to virtual along with the virtual clued themselves. However, for the augmented part, I use motion as the controlled, which significantly enhance the contact between the players and the virtual elements. 

There are two basic game mode for “ROOM”: Single Palyer Mode and Multiplayer Mode. 

Single Player Mode: Like it is shown in the video, player enters each room by confronting challenges. They need to collect information along the journey so that they can pass room one by one. 

Multiplayer Mode: I designed seven rooms and each room has different game mechanisms. The murderer is hidden beneath those seven players. Players need to use their best talent to solve the problem and collect information. They will switch to three other rooms in total and after each round they can chat with each other about their findings. After three rounds, it’s time to vote the murderer. Of course, if they couldn’t find the right murderer, they lost the game, and vice versa.
